An excellent post, how to deal with criminal politicians, and in the “a lot of this going around” department…
So, here’s a first.
Someone asked me why I start each post with three links to stuff in the news. As it happens, it’s a surprise as no one has ever asked that before.
Which is not to say no one has ever written to me about those bits of news. I’ve had lots of positive feedback, a much smaller amount of negative opinions, and even a few death threats but no one has ever asked the why before.
Part of the why is simply that Boat Bits was mainly aimed at friends and fellow boat builders. In my head, it was simply sharing my thoughts on a given day. The current news of import almost always what I’d talk about with a friend over a cup of coffee or beer. Once the news of the day was exhausted, we’d get down to the important stuff of boat design and building boats.
What little flack I get on the negative side is mostly on politics. Which surprises me because I’m not very political. I’ve always been an independent voter and don’t much like the Dems or Republicans. All political parties just generally pisses me off.
What I do post is stuff in the news that I feel is important. I worked in news as a cameraman (ABC, NBC, BBC) so news is something I keep an eye on. I keep a running short list of news stories as they have a chance of being problematic for us boatfolks.
You know, something like the the Felon’s tariffs will cause the price of screws, nut, and bolts to get a lot more expensive. Ditto on the price of plywood and other boat building materials.
News is not politics but the current state of politics is something you really should follow.
Lastly, I’ll continue the news bits because most of the folks I know don’t pay attention to what’s going on. When it all falls apart, I want to be able to tell them in good conscious that I told them so.
I look forward to your three links in your blog. They have helped me discover other channels of useful information and opinions
Please keep them coming, Bob
I missed the links when you stopped doing them there for a while and even lobbied to get them back a bit if you remember. It seemed pretty obvious that there were lots of reasons for them; all you state and maybe a bit of SEO too. As someone who disagrees with most of your political leanings I really appreciate that the (political) links are usually either to people who I can respect even if I disagree with or sometime entertainingly far out. Anyway, thank you so much for doing the links and the site.
Me too.. I’d miss them if you didn’t put them in. I live in Yerp and we see a funny side of the US these days on the main news, so it’s good to have the nuance…
