the biggest problem with older boats…

Another boycott, some FEMA news, and in the “current situational awareness” department…

What I’d really like to do today is get out my fly rod and cast some flies in the general direction of some lunker tarpon. However, I find myself trying to bring some sanity to a simple water tank to the head’s sink which, as predicted, is something of a SNAFU situation.

Which brings me to the biggest problem where buying an older boat is concerned…

Previous owners.

I’m sure, there was a reason that the water tank, foot pump, and spigot all use different size hoses. But, whatever it was it was not a good reason. Though, it might have made sense at the time as a temporary fix.

OK, I’ll amend that to previous owners and temporary fixes.

Throw in it seemed like a good idea at the time solutions.

So, the biggest problems with older boats is previous owners, temporary fixes, and seemed like a good idea at the time solutions.

I’m pretty sure I should stop while I’m ahead.

  1. Well, as someone who decided to replace a suspect raw water hose for the engine cooling system, I feel your pain. Going from a 3/4 inch raw water intake to a metric transmission cooler that a 1 1/8 hose will fit to a raw water pump with a 1/2 inch NPT inlet. I spent a good chunk of the day trying to find fittings that will work. Oh, did I mention the intake is stainless, the transmission cooler is aluminum, and the raw water pump is bronze?
