Just some needful facts, the downside of brain drain, and in the “He just keeps on opening his mouth” department…
It just occurred to me that I have not read a Stephen King novel in ages. Looking up his books this morning, it became clear that there are a lot of King’s books that I have not read. Which has me wondering just how that came to pass.
After some musing, the answer appears to be the general lack of people in the cruising population don’t seem to trade books like they used to. You do find some cruiser-oriented spaces (bars and suchlike) where there may be a stack of books to trade but not so much the cruiser-to-cruiser sort.
Back in the day when coming into a new anchorage, it was not unusual to be accosted by a cruiser in their dinghy asking if we had any books to trade. Often before we’d even had a chance to drop our anchor. As I write this, I realize that trading books was the way we mostly met folks.
There is no longer the sort of book trading framework now days, with books and videos being easily downloaded. I suspect, that we’re not better off in the grand scheme of things.
Sigh…
Anyway, I noticed that King’s book “Holly” is on sale and I’ve heard great things about the character in some of his other books. All of which I have not read and feel the need for a King binge to catch up so I can read “Holly”.
So it goes in the year 2025…
I visit a lot of Thrift stores, and the book selections have really gone down now everyone has a tablet to read from. I am still read 100% from books and enjoy the whole experience.
Cheers
