on planning rather than doing…

Not a bad idea, a needful read, and a story from the past

I had great plans for yesterday and woke up with the resolve to strike a few lines off the to-do list. But, as it happens, it rained and all my plans with it. So it does go.

On the upside, I no longer have a schedule and can pretty much do as I please. While I do have some plans to be somewhere else in the not-too-distant-future, an extra day or week more or less is non-problematic. Anyway, I spent most of yesterday looking for an affordable place to haul out and what purchases I needed to make for said haul out.

Most major projects need to be planned in a way that covers all those “what if” scenarios. Not addressing those possibilities can make a two week haul out become a nightmare of sitting on the hard waiting months for a part while your set aside project budget goes walkabout.

In our case, what we need for the haul out is a couple of gallons of bottom paint, some topside paint, the usual epoxy/glass kit, and all the possible other things that might surprise us. So far so good.

The venue for our haul out is a bit more problematic. A good simpatico boatyard that allow you to do your own work are something of a rarity these days so there’s a lot of homework involved that; at best, it makes you want to bang your head against a bulkhead to stop the pain.

More on the subject soonish as I have a head that needs dealing with.
