The upside of bringing back Polio, something about Tesla, and in the “Beyond Our Wildest Imagination” department…
That recent Atlantic Rally for Cruisers fatality where they were unable to rescue or even find a participant who had gone overboard wearing a self-inflating PFD with a PLB got me thinking that you really can’t buy safety.
Shit just has a way of happening.
As it happens, one piece of gear that’s on the “Really need to get” list is an AIS based PLB. Not that I believe that it will insure safety but that it will give the remaining crew a minuscule chance of, just maybe, saving my ass. That said, going overboard in the middle of an ocean is certainly a “dead man treading water” situation at best.
That being the case, Jimmy Cornell has a new cruising rally, the High Latitude Challenge, which has a great route but, not being a fan of rallies in general or their effect on cruising destinations, certainly does not give me the warm and fuzzies.
